Walking together with God is the same as in any relationship. One quality that is essential is to be heard. It may be important that we pick the right setting and the best time of day for quiet conversation. Or, perhaps we may choose to pour out our hearts as we go through our day. For me, it is a mix of both.  Ask yourself, “Am I prepared to both pour out my heart and actively listen?”  Listening to God is something I can improve upon! Take some moments and tell him you are listening. Are you aware of your feelings and needs? Do you have doubts, fears, anxiety, confidence, joy or anticipation? Find your quiet space and tell God what is presently happening in your life, work, family and inner self. I know in my experience that God has met me in my honesty. My honesty about my feelings, my reality, my concerns, my viewpoint on things. I am a verbal processor, so I chat and in the conversation he meets me as my Wonderful Counselor. He listens, he cares and he has answers: wisdom I might be unaware of. The Bible instructs my heart, giving me truth that teaches and stabilizes me. Psalm 62:8 NASB, “Trust in Him at all times, O people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us."

The New Oxford American Dictionary defines refuge as a condition of being safe or sheltered from pursuit, danger, or trouble.

“Lord, help me to run to You as my refuge, my safe place. I pour out these concerns that are heavy on my heart. Thank you for listening, for caring, and for loving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
